Movies I watch
Little Miss Sunshine
OFFLINE

I watched Little Miss Sunshine a few weeks ago but thought I should say something about it since I keep recommending that movie to everyone at work. When i first heard about this movie from my brother-in-law a few months ago, I wasn't quite sure what to think of the movie. He and his wife loved it when they saw it in theaters. So I finally got to watch it and loved it.

The movie is about a quirky i.e. unusual family that rushes to get a little girl across California in time for her to compete in the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant. By the end of the movie, you realize that this family is more normal than some of the other families you come across in the movie.

I thought Alan Arkin and Steve Carrell were excellent not to mention Little Miss Sunshine herself. The movie came off more of a dramedy to me, but I did laugh a ton. Everyone who's seen it loves it as well. Just a quite note though, the movie does deserve it's R-rating. My favorite scene in the movie is when they are driving along and they are all swearing while the little girl is content to listen to her music on her headphones.

Idiocracy
OFFLINE

Mike Judge's latest one is awesome. It's a funny tale about an average joe that goes to sleep in the present and awakes 500 years into the future and the world is a complete mess. Actually, everybody is so dumb, that this average joe is the smartest man on the planet.

The movie takes a shot at our modern obsession with TV and commercialism and takes a very dark though comedic view on how it will affect humanity.

If you aren't familiar with Mike Judge, you might be familiar with other projects that he has developped in the past such as Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill and the cult favorite Office Space.

2 Million
OFFLINE

If you haven't realized it yet, I do work for Blockbuster. The job is pretty sweet.

My point for that little bit of info is that when I read the USA Today this morning, I was thrilled to see that my company succeeded in getting 2 million online subscribers by the end of 2006.Actually, I was proud because it meant that people have figured out a way that can get a ton of movies at a good price. The program that we have is pretty sweet. It works similar to Netflix in the way that you set up a queue with a bunch of movies that you want to watch and we shipped them to you. Here's where we are different. If you want to get another movie right away, just return your Blockbuster Online mailer to our store and get a free rental to tide you over until you get your next one in the mail. Here's the link to the commercial that's running on TV right now. It explains everything to you.

If you are interested, you need to go to Blockbuster.com/total and signup. If you want to try the service for free for 2 weeks, just punch the special code 45005B. Then you are all set.

Crank Stank
OFFLINE

The other day, one of my co-workers kept on bragging about how sweet Crank was. He had seen it in theatres and wouldn't stop talking about it. So we finally got it in at work and I decided to watch it. I am a big Jason Statham fan. He's done some pretty good work but I was disapointed with Crank.

The general feel of the movie is the worst bits of Snatch, Domino and the Transporter all mixed into one. The premise seemed an interesting one. One that would let you believe Chelios, the main guy, do all sort of crazy stuff to keep his heart rate up so he won't die. He does do that with lots of mindless destruction. But there's a lot of time he's just standing around not doing much. I was more interested in the Puma gear he was wearing than the actual movie.

I thought Crank stank.

What to expect
OFFLINE

The other day, weeks ago actually, Josie asked me if I would be interested in doing something for this site. I agreed and here I am. He always asks me what I thnk about movies and 99% of the time he agrees with my choices. And many times, he completely disregards what I say and watches a bad movie.

Here's what you are going to get from me. I will comment on any movie I have watched in the past week. You will get a piece of my infinite wisdom and some trivia. BTW, here's the cool part, I get to watch movies a week or two before they are out on DVD.

I work for Blockbuster and as a result I watch a ton of movies. Josie convinced me to write this blog in an effort to help the less fortunate (those who don't watch 15 movies a week) find something decent to watch. And when i say decent that obviously excludes horror flicks.
